ICMSA Calls for July Milk Price to Reach 45cL

Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association Urges Milk Purchasers and Co-ops to Reflect Market Improvements in Price

ICMSA dairy committee chair Noel Murphy has called for a July milk price of 45 cents per liter (cL).

Speaking in advance of the July milk price announcements, Murphy said that given recent market improvements and the pressures on dairy farmers, ICMSA believes that a base price of 45cL is justified.

"The market has improved significantly in recent months, with butter prices rising by 10% and skim milk powder prices by 5%," Murphy said.

"This improvement has been reflected in the GDT index, which has risen by 8% in the past two months. Milk production is also down in Ireland and across Europe, which is putting further upward pressure on prices," he added.

Murphy said that dairy farmers are facing significant cost pressures, including rising feed, fertilizer, and energy prices.

"Farmers need a milk price that will cover their costs of production and allow them to invest in their businesses," Murphy said.

"A milk price of 45cL would be a fair and reasonable price that would reflect the current market conditions and the challenges facing dairy farmers," he added.
