China Launches World's Largest Floating Wind Turbine Platform
Mingyang Smart Energy Deploys 166MW Turbine
Platform Sails from Guangzhou on August 11
China has launched the world's largest single-capacity floating wind power platform. The platform, built by Mingyang Smart Energy, set sail from Guangzhou on August 11 bound for the South China Sea.
The platform, named "Haiyou Guanlan", is China's first floating wind power platform to operate in waters more than 100 meters deep. It is also the first of 166MW turbines to be deployed by Mingyang Smart Energy.
The deployment of the platform marks a significant milestone in China's development of renewable energy. The platform is expected to generate enough electricity to power 200,000 homes and will help to reduce China's reliance on fossil fuels.
