**Early Life and Family**

Brian Cox was born on June 1, 1946, in Dundee, Scotland. His parents were Mary Ann and Charles McArdle Cox. Cox is married to actress Nicole Ansari-Cox, and they have two children, Margaret and Alan. Alan is also an actor known for his roles in "Young Sherlock Holmes" and as the young John Watson in the BBC series "Sherlock."

**Acting Career**

Cox began his acting career in the early 1970s, appearing in various stage and television productions. He made his film debut in "Nicholas and Alexandra" (1971). Cox has since starred in numerous films and television shows, including "Braveheart" (1995), "X2: X-Men United" (2003), "Zodiac" (2007), "Troy" (2004), and "Rush Hour 3" (2007). He has also provided voices for animated films, such as "Rise of the Guardians" (2012) and "The Secret Life of Pets" (2016).
