WEB DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman today announced that the team has named Derek Lalonde as the new head coach.

Lalonde becomes the 28th head coach in franchise history, and will be officially introduced at a press conference on Tuesday, June 6 at Little Caesars Arena.

Lalonde, 51, joins the Red Wings after spending the past three seasons as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning. During his tenure with the Lightning, Lalonde led the team to a 128-63-21 record, including a Presidents Trophy in 2021-22.

Prior to joining the Lightning, Lalonde spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings under former head coach Jeff Blashill.

"We are very excited to welcome Derek back to Detroit as our new head coach," said Yzerman. "He is a proven winner with a wealth of experience, and we believe he is the right person to lead our team to success."
